Haynes, director of the 1998 glam rock drama “Velvet Goldmine” and the chimerical 2007 effort “I’m Not There” in which six actors play Bob Dylan, does a fine job of describing the cultural forces at play in the late 1950s-early 1960s in New York City. Together, the two teamed up with guitarist Sterling Morrison and (later) drummer Maureen Tucker and - voila - the Velvet Underground was born.
